Troubleshooting Catch Up Literacy Digital Games 3
QUESTION ANSWER
The scores of our pupils are not being saved, which means that their name is not being recognised when they return to the programme. This is preventing them from moving forward through the games.

In order for Catch Up Literacy Digital Games 3 to save user scores properly, the computer user has to have ‘permission’ to write to the file in which scores are stored.

Often, Windows Vista and Windows 7 prevent users from doing this. If that happens we need to change the permissions manually. Please click here for instructions on changing permissions manually.

A new version of the CD ROM which deals with this automatically is currently in testing. If you have purchased a Digital Games 3 and you would like this new disk, at no charge, when it is available please email: digitalgameshelp@catchup.org.uk

The program is prompting for a username. We have tried entering the names of pupils but it doesn't seem to be working.

Catch Up Literacy Digital Games 3 log on screen

Do you have the speakers switched on?

The programme needs the speakers switched on at the very beginning as the voice asks for various clarifications.

The log in screen is for the individual learner (the pupil) to use, to enter their name. This is to enable the programme to track the learner's progress over time.

When the learner enters their name, the programme asks aurally if they have used the programme before. If they have played before, they click the tick and the game looks for their record.

If they have not played before, they click the cross and the programme asks them aurally to check that they have spelled their name correctly; if they have, they click the tick and the programme creates a user record for them.
