Andrew Lane

Biography

I took over as chair of trustees in November 2023.

I joined Unilever as a management trainee in 1978 and spent a varied career in the private, public and charity sectors as an accountant and consultant. This included a spell on secondment at HM Treasury and consultancy assignments in various parts of central government. I was Finance Director of Added Value Group, a marketing consultancy, for nine years and was part of the team that sold the company to WPP. Subsequently I worked on a freelance basis, mostly in the charity sector. I worked at UK Community Foundations for several years, helping to manage a large lottery grant.

I have been a trustee / non-executive director of various organisations including the Learning Without Limits Multi Academy Trust in Leicester, and Norfolk and Waveney Mind. My main interest outside work is running and I was one of the founders of the parkrun movement. I was a non-executive director there and I now help to organise running clubs and races in Norfolk.

Why I am a trustee

I am now in my second spell as a trustee, after joining originally in 2002 when Catch Up® was in its early days. I know how important it is to acquire literacy and numeracy skills and I was very impressed by the evidence of how effective Catch Up® is. I rejoined the trustee board in 2019.
