1st May 2025 - Guidance for younger learners

A reminder that following the completion of our successful 3-year action research project to consider if Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy could be used to support younger learners who are showing early signs of struggling, there is now additional resources, guidance and FAQs available in your online user account to support your work with older 5-year-olds who are showing signs of struggling.

Where is the new guidance?

Within the Resources section of your online user account you will find a new tab – ‘Younger learners’.

Within this new tab (both for Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy) you will find a variety of documents to support your work with older 5-year-olds who are showing signs of struggling.

What documents are available?

For Catch Up® Literacy:

  • FAQs Younger learners

  • Catch Up Literacy Attitudes to Literacy Assessment for younger learners

  • Catch Up Literacy Assessments for Learning guidance and documents - Younger learners

  • Parent and carer leaflets for younger learners

For Catch Up® Numeracy:
  • FAQs Younger learners

  • Catch Up Numeracy Attitudes to Numeracy Assessment for younger learners

  • Catch Up Numeracy Phase 1 Numeracy profile guidance - younger learners

  • Catch Up Numeracy Targets Guidance - Younger learners

  • Parent and carer leaflets for younger learners

You may be interested to know that we have received feedback from a number of deliverers who have found these resources to also be helpful to support older learners who are operating at a much younger level to their chronological age.

What other support is available for the deliverer?

You are welcome to email us at any time with queries about the new resources or working with older 5-year-olds (community@catchup.org)
