Find out moreA child now in Year 5, with Special Educational Needs for Behaviour and Emotional Difficulties and ADHD, started Catch Up® Literacy in September 2010 with a Reading Age of 6 years 5 months and a Chronological Age of 7 years (difference: -7 months). At the end of Catch Up® his Reading Age was 7 years 4 months and Chronological Age was 8 years (difference: -8 months).
NFER tests indicated a lack of progress, however he moved from Catch Up® Literacy level 5 to Catch Up® Literacy level 10. Lack of progress was due to difficulties he had settling into Year 3, as he became school phobic and attended the Behaviour Unit part-time. In Year 4, he began to make progress using some of the Catch Up® strategies and his confidence and self-esteem grew. One year after Catch Up®, his NFER Standardised Score was 105 and Reading Age 9 years 11 months (difference: +10 months), an overall increase of 2 years and 7 months from May 2011 to May 2012.
He reads more fluently and takes pride in his presentation. In Guided Reading groups he offers his opinion. To continue to support him, we have purchased access to Catch Up® Literacy Digital Games online.
In 2012/13, he had Catch Up® Numeracy. His Maths Age at the start was 6 years 1 month (-23 months). At the end of Catch Up®, his Maths Age was 8 years 2 months (-10 months). The gap between his Chronological Age and Maths Age has narrowed and his Maths Age gain between tests was 25 months. He continues to develop his mathematical skills and is more confident in maths lessons.
During the time that he received Catch Up® intervention he matured a great deal. Some of this can be attributed to behaviour intervention, however, Catch Up® played a large part in his improvement and enabled him to access the whole curriculum.
