19th May 2021 - When is the best time to hold Catch Up® sessions?

Learner

This is a question that pops up fairly regularly, so we thought it would be useful to revisit our advice.

As you will know, many struggling learners are more receptive to teaching and learning in the morning than in the afternoon. However, if it’s a case of the afternoon or not at all, then the sessions certainly can be held in the afternoon. Indeed, some schools find that at the start of afternoon school can be quite a good time.

We don’t specify when schools should hold Catch Up® sessions because timetables vary from school to school. You will need to plan Catch Up® provision alongside other timetabling arrangements, including that of quiet spaces and rooms. We do, however, recommend that pupils are not withdrawn from their favourite lessons!
