10th September 2018 - Training round-up, Summer Term 2018

Trainer

Now we have moved swiftly into a new school year, we felt this was the ideal time to reflect on the great success of our training courses that took place during the Summer term. We delivered more than 40 ‘Delivering Catch Up®’ training courses (including an online course in Australia!), welcoming over 500 attendees to the Catch Up® Community. In addition to this, we have been really pleased to deliver our ‘Review and Refresh’ sessions, which trainees have found very valuable, plus our popular Catch Up® information session webinars!

As always, our Accredited Trainers visited some of our excellent Regional Training Centres during the Summer term, as well as a number of schools and other venues across the UK. Courses took place in London, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Birmingham, Manchester, Gateshead, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Durham, Suffolk, South Wales, Leeds, Bristol, Yorkshire, as well as several parts of Scotland! Phew!

One of our Accredited Trainers, Clare Manghan, has enjoyed delivering both Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy courses this term. Clare told us, “It has been a great pleasure, as always, to meet such professional and enthusiastic staff from schools and other settings. It has been particularly valuable to meet colleagues from both primary and secondary settings, and discuss how Catch Up® can work so well in both.” She went on to tell us about one tricky addition to the training this summer – which we’re sure you can all relate to! “The hardest thing to contend with last term was the heat! As much as we love to see the sunshine in the UK, juggling the air conditioning to ensure trainees were neither wilting nor blocks of ice was a challenge! Then again, at least there was air conditioning!’’

Clare was pleased to share with us some of the very positive comments she received from trainees. These included: ‘Super course – I gained a lot of information on how to deliver Catch Up®’; ‘Excited to get started’; ‘Homework tasks were made clear and the discussions about them were fantastic!’

Across all of our courses, the average trainee response to ‘How would you rate the training course overall?’ was 4.5 (with 1 being ‘poor’ and 5 being ‘excellent’). We regularly receive extremely positive feedback, and it is especially rewarding to hear from deliverers, after they have been trained, to learn how much impact the interventions are having for their learners. That is why we are here!

We were also really pleased to receive these other positive comments over the Summer term:

‘The trainer put us at ease and filled us with confidence’
‘The trainers know their stuff!
‘Best course I’ve been on’
‘Comprehensive, clear and memorable’
‘The tasks in between the sessions really help understanding’
‘This will make a big difference!’
‘I’d recommend this for as many school staff as possible’

The team have already started to deliver courses this new school year; we are ready for another very busy term! There are spaces still available on courses this Autumn. Simply visit www.catchup.org to find out what’s coming up soon! We look forward to seeing you there.
