Find out moreThere are 12 levels of reading difficulty identified in Catch Up® Literacy. Levels 1 – 10 are intended for Primary-aged learners and levels 4 – 12 are for Secondary learners.
In the Catch Up® Literacy e-file, on page 82, there is a chart which shows how to correlate the number of words a pupil has read accurately in Assessment 2 (sight word knowledge) and an indicative Catch Up® starting level. The maximum score a learner can achieve on Assessment 2 is 240, and that would suggest Catch Up® level 10 as the starting level.
Some older learners, identified as benefiting from Catch Up® Literacy, may recognise on sight 211- 240 words on Assessment 2, indicating a starting Catch Up® level of 10. However, these same learners may not be able to read those assessment words in the context of a text and they may not read with comprehension. By starting at level 10, the supporting adult has the opportunity in the Catch Up® twice-weekly 15 minute individual sessions to ensure that the learner is:
