5th November 2025 - Catch Up® Resources!

As you know, there are many helpful resources available in your online user account. Whether you deliver Catch Up® Literacy, Catch Up® Numeracy or both, the ‘Resources’ tab offers resources and materials to assist with the delivery, organisation, management and communication of the interventions!

We regularly review the resources available, and always welcome feedback and ideas from our Catch Up® Community.

Learner Certificates!

One popular resource for both interventions are the learner certificates. After a recent review and conversations with some of our dedicated deliverers, we are pleased to tell you that we have added a third, simpler design to the PDF within the user account. We hope this third option will be useful in your work with struggling learners.

Catch Up® Numeracy – Word problems and Translation!

We are pleased that the various resources available to support progress with the Catch Up® Numeracy components Word Problems and Translation, have proved to be straight forward and helpful.

Whether carrying out the Assessments for Learning or delivering the Individual sessions, it is important to model correct mathematical language and encourage the learner to use the same. However, when it comes to the ‘subject’ of the word problem or worded translation statement there is flexibility! For example, the example problem may talk of ‘biscuits’, ‘stickers’, ‘marbles’ or ‘money’ – as long as the numbers and operation / mathematical language stay the same, the subject can be anything you choose!

For many of our learners, the range of subjects included on the resources are appropriate and varied. However, if some tweaks to the subject are needed to engage specific learners – feel free! One deliverer mentioned during a Review and Refresh session that they needed to initially always talk about buses to engage their young person. This may have been the number of buses, the number on the front of the bus, the number of passengers on the bus etc! Once the learner felt more confident, they were able to consider different subjects when solving word problems.

We do wish to ensure that our resources are as up to date as possible however and were pleased to discuss this with one of our wonderful Numeracy deliverers. We have since reviewed some of the terms used on the resources for Word Problems and Translation and replaced some subjects which were less familiar to the young people we support now – such as MP3 player! The updated resources are already available in the user account and include:

  • Phase 2 learner sheets

  • Phase 1 word problems activity 4

  • WORD PROBLEMS template in the miscellaneous resources

The same deliverer has been kind enough to share some further subject ideas which we felt the whole Community might find helpful.

These include talking about trading cards, stickers, fruit or vegetables picked from the school garden, school dinner money, vending machine produce, entry to the cinema, lengths in a pool and laps of a track!

Thank you so much for those great ideas! We hope you all find them very helpful in your delivery.
